In 1973, the Green Goblin died, but he later came back from the dead in 1996. Shortly after his return, he took part in a mystical ritual where five individuals are granted a random power: madness, death, power, immortality, or knowledge. Norman believes he'll receive ultimate power, but instead, he gets madness. Eventually, his insanity incapacitates him, and he's easily defeated by Spider-Man. This story now focuses on his revenge...
