This story is a tie-in to Secret Wars II, where the Beyonder — a being from beyond the Multiverse — becomes human and decides to explore the main universe. However, due to certain circumstances, he eventually turns against everything and plans to destroy all existence. To protect his realm, Mephisto strikes a deal with the Beyonder and bets everything on Spider-Man.
