If you don't know what is happening in the story, read the following: Amazing Spider-Man #149 (published in 1975) is a story written by Gerry Conway where Peter fights a clone created by the villain Jackal. At the end of the battle, the clone supposedly dies but returns in a 1994 story after Aunt May falls into a coma. Now, the story of what happened to the clone—also known as Ben Reilly—after discovering he was a clone is told here, and I highly recommend it, especially since it was written by J. M. DeMatteis (whom you might remember from his spectacular run here).
I don’t think it’s necessary to read the Clone Saga to appreciate this story. In fact, the Clone Saga isn’t considered a particularly good story due to how convoluted it is and the fact that it took years to conclude. You can read this story on its own and still enjoy it.
